Malcolm Mitchell’s overexuberance has price him his season.
The Georgia broad receiver was celebrating running back Todd Gurley’s 75-yard touchdown with an “air bump” when he landed awkwardly and tore his ACL.
It was the sort of freak injury Georgia couldn’t afford.
“What we thought occurred did occur,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said in a teleconference name with reporters Sunday. “It was confirmed with an MRI right this moment. I can’t imagine him coming back from that [this season].”
It’s difficult to see Mitchell (No. 26) injure his knee in the video, however you’ll be able to see him hobble a bit when he lands and he holds on to Gurley for a second as they stroll by the top zone.
Mitchell has had knee points up to now. He needed minor surgical procedure to restore a meniscus tear this previous spring and missed a few of fall camp with swelling.
Mitchell can have surgery in a couple weeks and Georgia will attempt to get the junior’s yr again with a medical redshirt.
Junior Michael Bennett replaced Mitchell and led all Georgia receivers with five catches for 60 yards. However, Richt stated he wasn’t certain how the Bulldogs would line up its receiving corps for Saturday’s game towards South Carolina.
This is a terrible way for Mitchell’s season to end, particularly with a lot anticipated from him and the Georgia offense this season.
