Real Madrid were finally able to make use of their reconstructed stage and unveil freshly signed Gareth Bale at the Santiago Bernabeu on transfer deadline day. That completion of deal that took all summer and required a new world record transfer fee attracted 30,000 fans to greet Bale at the stadium (Cristiano Ronaldo’s unveiling drew 80,000 fans in 2009), but some of them were apparently there just to tell Real Madrid not to sell Mesut Ozil.
First up for Bale, it was the medical exam complete with obligatory awkward exam table photo op…

Then, to show what he’s been up to while doing all he can to not play for Tottenham, Bale said a few words in Spanish once he took to the podium.
“Hola,” he said in his perpetually pubescent voice. “Es un sueno para mi juga para Real Madrid. Gracias por este gran acogida. Hala Madrid!” (“Hello, it’s a dream for me to play for Real Madrid. Thank you for the great welcome. Go Madrid!”)
And just to keep Cristiano Ronaldo happy, he said this (via the Guardian):
“Cristiano, for me, is the best player in the world. He’s a massive factor in why I wanted to come here. It comes no better than him and it’ll be an honour to play with him and we’ll have a great team and hopefully win a lot of things together,” he said.
“I don’t think I need to help him [Ronaldo] because he’s already proved he’s the best in the world.”
He then posed with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and his new shirt beside a poster of him wearing a Real Madrid shirt as a child. You know, just to prove his Madridista street cred.

Then it was time for his girlfriend, baby daughter and extended family to get involved for this year’s Christmas card photo…

Next it was time to put on the full kit and hit the pitch to prove his basic proficiency with a football now that he’s the most expensive transfer in the history of Earth.
Then he did that heart thing with his fingers that he trademarked over his new badge.

And finally, the badge kissing. So much badge kissing.
